On one rainy day in Tulum Mexico, I ventured into the jungle to visit the Coba Ruins. Along the road to Coba from Tulum, your view is mostly jungle, but there are a few small towns along the way where you can find the most delicious food and beautiful handmade art. The video for this collection showcases moments from the rainy day adventures that led me to find this treasures on a road to visit the Coba Ruins.

This amazing hand made ash tray was tucked away on a shelf with a bunch of random stuff, so I really wasn't even sure if it was for sale. It looked like it had either collected hella dust, or was the store owners personal ash tray. This didn't deter me, because if you're really a hustler you know everything is for sale, so I looked up from my dusty find and asked the owner, "what about this one here?"... She didn't even hesitate and immediately gestured me over to put it on the counter with the others I had found. 

This one is like a real treasure. There wasn't anything else like it in the store, and it was definitely not on display. But, like most treasure, even through the accumulated dust, you know what you have found is magical! When I finally got this home, I soaked the inside with dish soap and water, then scrubbed it, but the layers of dust or ash were relentless. To cover the remaining build up in a more beautiful way lol, I added the silver balls which filled all the spaces perfectly then topped it off with the leaf. The fact that this piece still has remnants of the days past sealed into it forever under the silver balls makes me like it even more. Every time you use this ash tray you can imagine someone in Mexico smoking joints with their friends ashing in this, and know that all those good vibes are included. 

I don't really know what this dope little ceramic's intended use was, but when I found it at a antique store in Tulum, Mexico I knew it would be perfect for an ashy tray. The cover is a game changer if you're like me and leave your ashtray out on the coffee table. 

Tulum is a real hipster type destination about 2 hours south of Cancun, so you will only find one antique store there and it's pretty basic. There wasn't much in there I wanted to remix into ash trays, but I did find an original nintendo! I shoulda bought it.

Anyway, this little ceramic is dope af and the little leaf inside is a hidden gem. Beyond my admiration for the functionality of this piece of pottery, I found when googling that these are apparently really exclusive. Authentic Talavera pottery only comes from the city of Puebla and the nearby communities of Atlixco, Cholula, and Tecali. Because of the quality of the natural clay found there and the tradition of production which goes back to the 16th century. This little dish turned ash tray has the La Carona Talavera crown makers mark on the bottom and was likely handcrafted in the 1960's or 1970's era.

Im calling this one Flor Arcoiris or Rainbow Flower. I found this beautiful hand painted tray at a shop on the side of a road heading to the Coba Ruins from Tulum, Mexico. They were low key hidden because they had salt and pepper shakers on these. I didn't buy the salt and pepper shakers, so when you buy one of these I expect you to use it as you wish. Maybe put some candles or crystals on it, or even use it as an ash tray. 

After smuggling these back to the USA, I went through my leaf stash and added the perfect little leaf. My friend grew these leaves with a lot of love and attention, so when I add these to my pieces it's like the cherry on top! From Mexico to the USA these trays have been on a nice little journey, so you already know theres a lot of positive loving energy in this piece.

The Saint of Smoke rolling tray is an antique hand carved wooden tray I found somewhere between Punta Mita and Sayulita, I believe the town was called Litibu. There was a dope tucked off public beach there, so if you're ever in the area, don't be afraid to follow the cobblestone and dirt road to paradise.

Ive posted pics of the antique store below so you can see the quaint little spot I copped these at. The store was being run by a man in his 40s, his 3 year old daughter and 6 month old who was passed out soundly on a blanket on the floor. He didn't speak any english, but when I asked if these were recently made he said no they're old. lol That's all I got for you on a history lesson. 

I spruced these dusty little trays up with some dried leaves and coated them so you use this without messing it up. 

On my way back from this trip to Mexico I got hit by the dog in the airport because "I had a grinder in my purse", and the customs agent who went through all my stuff was very intrigued with these. I told him I was turning into rolling trays, and he was unimpressed. lol After going through literally everything I had and finding an empty LA Kush jar, Runtz pre roll tube, and my Mexican cookie grinder, he finally let me go. Only after being a total hater and testing all of the items for THC! Shit was so wild. So yea, when you purchase this tray just know it was apart of some real smuggler shit. They tried to stop us, but the Saint of Smoke and I made it through! lol
